The Virtual Dementia Tour™ (VDT) was designed by well-known geriatric specialist and founder of Second Wind Dreams®, P.K. Beville,M.S.

The Virtual Dementia Tour™ [VDT], simulates dementia to help participants identify with the symptoms of the disease. This training involves an individual experience and is encouraged for anyone in the public sector, especially for those who serve our elders and their families.

The VDT has been conducted at the following venues:

  • Long Term Care Conventions
  • Home Health Conventions
  • Hospice
  • Police and Fire
  • Legislative bodies
  • Chamber of Commerce
  • Educators (High School, University and Medical Schools)
  • During this tour, there is a pre/post test, and participants are asked to perform everyday tasks under conditions that simulate the effects of dementia. Tour administrators observe the subject’s performance and note the impact of the simulated dementia conditions.
  •  To offer the VDT to conventions Second Wind Dreams® provides a staff member, and depending on number of participants, Second Wind Dreams® may request volunteers to be provided by the convention so that more participants can experience the VDT.  Volunteers will receive training for their tasks by SWD.
  •  At the conclusion of the tour, your certified VDT trainer tabulates the pre and post test data from your participants and presents a session on results, conclusions and recommendations for convention participants.

What is Needed to Offer The Virtual Dementia Tour™ at your Convention:

The Virtual Dementia Tour™ is a flexible tool that can be accommodated in many different settings.  Hotels, classrooms, large numbers, small groups, in other words, we believe the VDT is a must have at your convention and will do all we can to make sure it happens.

  •  Depending on the needs of your convention, we may ask for assistance obtaining volunteers which we will train on site.  Most of the time, we are able to provide trained volunteers to help us.

  • VDT Time assignments:  Some conventions have assigned times to participants before the convention and some have a sign up at registration.  Let us know which you prefer and we can provide sign up sheets.

A wrap up session will be provided by your Certified VDT Trainer for all convention participants.  This program should be no less than one hour.
