Second Wind Dreams & Geriatric Specialists

P.K. Beville is founder of Second Wind Dreams®, an international non-profit organization based in Marietta, Ga. Launched in 1997, it aims to fulfill the dreams of those living in elder care communities, thereby enhancing their lives and changing the perception of aging.

A geriatric specialist and national speaker, Beville began working with elders in 1983. She has designed and implemented mental health services, which are currently provided in 800 nursing homes throughout the United States.

 Beville also serves as President of Geriatric Specialists, a consulting firm specializing in instructing, programming and counseling in all facets of elder care. Having directed development of an innovative system of psychological testing for geriatric residents, she consults with facility staffs in the areas of crisis intervention, family counseling, care plan review, and screening of nursing home populations for mental health intervention.

Beville holds a B.S. degree in Psychology from Georgetown College and a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Eastern Kentucky University. Her Post graduate work was conducted for the development of the Virtual Dementia Tour® which is currently used in eldercare communities, Universities and by Lawmakers. The teaching tool is used to help sensitize people to the plight of Dementia which has been shown to result in better care.

Beville is well known as a seminar leader and keynote speaker in the field of geriatrics. She co-authored Second Wind, a novel about the positive, upbeat aspects of aging. Currently a member of the Georgia Gerontology Society, she was named Outstanding Southerner of the Year in 2000 by Southern Living Magazine. In May 2001, she received the Distinguished Service award from the Georgia Association of Homes and Services for the Aging for her contributions to the field of aging, awarded the TBS 2004 Pathfinder Award for Volunteer pioneers, the Top 100 Volvo Heroes Award 2004, Harlequin’s More Than Words Award 2005 for her work with residents of eldercare communities, 2006 11Alive Community Service Award for her work with residents of eldercare communities, L’Oreal Paris Woman of Worth Award and 2006 Phenomenal Woman of North Fulton by the American Business Woman’s Association.

She has been featured in numerous books, magazines, articles, and national media about her work with Second Wind Dreams®.
