Virtual Dementia Tour® - Individual Edition
When a loved one is diagnosed with Dementia, it affects everyone in the family, friends and the community. The Alzheimer’s Association states that Alzheimer’s is being diagnosed every 69 seconds in the U.S. alone, and 7 out of 10 Alzheimer’s patients live at home where family and friends provide 75 percent of the care. Yet studies show that these caregivers are not formally trained to provide the support needed for those living with dementia.
The purpose of the Virtual Dementia Tour®-I for Individuals (VDT®-I) is to help families better identify with their loved one’s day-to-day struggles, thereby improving their ability to provide care.
Learning to create a positive environment for those with Dementia can only come from attempting to walk in their shoes. Created by P.K. Beville, a specialist in Geriatrics, this valuable, easy to follow experiential kit is designed to instill hope in individual and family caregivers, providing them with a tool to identify with and better understand loved one’s behaviors and needs.
“The Virtual Dementia Tour®(VDT®) Family Edition is a must-have for everyone caring for loved ones suffering from any form and level of dementia. It’s an easy-to-use kit with everything needed to truly comprehend and empathize with what it must be like to have your mind malfunctioning. I wish I’d had this incredible tool when I cared for my parents (both with early Alzheimer’s which went undiagnosed for over a year), as I would have been empowered sooner to be a more compassionate and effective caregiver.”
--Jacqueline Marcell, author of “Elder Rage” and host of the “Coping with Caregiving” radio show

Proven Results
Experts agree that education and proper training are the best ways to help families. The VDT®-I offers hope to families, providing tips and tools necessary to create an environment that supports the disease and lessens confusion.
Simple strategies for care are explored, including:
- Keep Things Visual. Tasks that are tangible with visual cues stand a better chance of successful completion
- Limit the Noise. The distraction of additional noise impairs concentration on a given task creating confusion and increasing agitation.
- Give it Time. Allow extra time to complete tasks. Hurrying only causes frustration for the caregiver and anger for the patient. Be realistic with your expectations.
- Reinforce, Reassure and Rescue. Continuous encouragement results in more completed tasks and discourages signs of gave up withdrawal, which can lead to depression.
The VDT®-Group Edition has been experienced by more than 10,000 professional caregivers, changing countless lives. Now, the VDT®-I is available for individual and family use in the comfort of your own home.
Proceeds from the sale of the VDT®-I go toward the fulfillment of dreams for residents of nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

Please note: Family kits cannot be purchased by Elder Care Communities (nursing homes, assisted living, hospice, home health agencies, etc) (ECC) unless we have a record of purchase of the Group kit. This will allow your ECC to send both families and staff through the VDT® Group Edition, thereby meeting the dementia training requirement and also meeting the needs of your families and community. If your ECC already has a Group VDT®, the Family kit can be purchased for individual families. SWD will provide a discount of $25.00 if both kits are purchased at the same time.
